News and Notes - October 2008

President's Message

Our Annual Meeting will be held at the Fire Museum of Maryland on Saturday, November 15, 2008, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. The Discovery Room will be open as well as the entire museum. See information on reservations elsewhere. An important part of the annual meeting is the election of officers for the coming year. Is it your time to volunteer? Contact any member of the Board and let them know that you are available to serve

Baltimore County has provided the community with a proposed plan to slow down the traffic on Charmuth Road. Because Charmuth Road is a “connector” road, speed humps are not an option. Traffic Engineering had proposed a number of other traffic control devices that are designed to make the roadway look less like a thoroughfare, much like the devices that were recently installed on Margate Road. It will be up to the residents of Charmuth Road to decide what should be done. They are the ones that get to vote. Especially needed is the support of the residence owners that will be adjacent to the new traffic controls. I urge everyone on Charmuth Road to review the plan, ask questions and vote when you are asked to. The safety of Charmuth Road is up to you and we depend on you to make the right decision.

Don’t miss the Halloween Party that will be held this year at Hampton Elementary School on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. Please reply to the flyer that will be found elsewhere in this newsletter.

We lost the battle to have the property at 1300 Dulaney Valley Road placed in conservancy. The owners convinced Councilman McIntire to leave the zoning as it was instead of changing it to a conservancy zone as he had originally proposed, and we had supported. A plan was submitted that proposed eleven (11) building lots and preserved the original house. The plan will have to be approved by Baltimore County before any work can begin. We will keep an eye on the plan as it moves through County agencies.

We are aware of several locations in the community where car sales appear to be taking place. ALL sales of motor vehicles of any kind are prohibited in residential zones unless the vehicles are your own and registered in your name. Three (3) agencies are involved in investigating these sales – Baltimore County Code Enforcement, Baltimore County Police and the Maryland State Motor Vehicle Administration. Of interest are cars without tags and cars with “dealer” tags. We will cooperate with these agencies to the fullest extent to see that these sales are stopped!

How Do I Submit a News Item?

Our neighborhood includes people in all walks of life. Some are getting married, others are making the honor roll, others are having children. Some of us are making important business strides. Some are recognized for their contributions worldwide. We are a very active neighborhood.

Because there are so many of us: fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, grandfathers, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, spouses, partners, pets, and friends, there's no way we can keep up with such a quantity of news.

As a result, the DVIA relies on you to submit news items for publication.

If you have a news item you'd like to share with the community, please send it to web@dvia.org.
